(After the war, Harald Busch published the book So war Der U-Boot Krieg; Erwin Mai is likely the Erwin featured in part of the book.)

Erwin Mai served briefly on U-146 and U-150 during 1942 and finally served as Obersteuermann of U-845 as of 01 May 1943. He was killed when U-845 was sunk on 10 March 1944.
