U-35 guest Hans-Georg von Friedeburg
Hans-Georg von Friedeburg was born on 15 July 1895 in Strassburg,
Alsace, Germany. He joined the Kaiserliche Marine in 1914 (Crew 14). He
was Watch Officer on SMU-114 June 1918-November 1918. He continued to serve in
the Reichsmarine after the First World War. In 1938, while he was on staff
commanding the naval forces operating in Spain, he wanted to re-familiarize
himself with the operation of a U-Boat, so he briefly became a guest on board U-35.

In 1939 (6 June to 08 July), he commanded U-27.
He went on to become deputy commander of the U-Boat
Force, September 1941 until January 1943, Commanding Admiral of the U-Boat Force
February 1943 until April 1945, and Commanding Admiral of the Kriegsmarine in
May 1945 at the time of capitulation. He committed suicide on 23 May 1945. He
had been awarded the Knight's Cross on 17 January 1945.
