U-35 crewmember Max Geißler

Max Geißler was born on 28 December 1908 in Vieselbach, Germany, and enlisted in the Reichsmarine on 31 October 1929.

He served as Bootsmaat on board U-35 from its commissioning on 03 November 1936 until 07 May 1938.

He is probably recognizable in this photo:

Max Geißler served in various capacities in the Kriegsmarine during the war, including 1940-1942 on board Prinz Eugen.  He was promoted to the officer ranks as Leutnant zur See on 01 October 1942, and was assigned to Kriegsmarine Crew 1939 (December). He was later assigned to Crew 1938.

Between 1951 and 1956, Max Geißler served in the Labor Service Unit of the US Navy Europe, clearing mines.  On 11 May 1956 he joined the new Bundesmarine as Kapitänleutnant, and retired 31 March 1969.

He passed away on 23 October 1980.
