U-35 Second Watch Officer Hans-Joachim ("Jonny") Roters

Jonny Roters was born on 07 October 1911 in Rastatt, and served in the merchant marine (Handelsmarine) from 1930 until 1935. He joined the Kriegsmarine on 01 April 1937 and was assigned to Crew 36 based on his experience.

Gerhard Stamer is the Naval Officer in the front row on the right, Rolf Dau (commander of U-42) is on the left, and Luftwaffe Major Massenbach is in the center; Heinz Erchen (U-35) and Jonny Roters are in the second and third rows, respectively. [4]

Jonny Roters was promoted to Oberleutnant zur See during captivity. After repatriation, he followed Siegfried Bruse to settle in North Bay, Ontario, Canada in 1952.
