Karl-Heinz Schmidt was not a member of the crew of U-35 on the second (final) war cruise, so he did not become a Prisoner of War on 29 November 1939. He survived the war, and emigrated to the United States in 1957. He passed away on 2 January 1987 in Renton, Washington State.
